WELCOME! Our Favorite Fall and Winter Layers (and a big SALE)❄️
Welcome to The Adventure Addicts' monthly gear roundup! Let's chat fall and winter clothing and gear, and the REI Winter Sale...
Hi!! Thank you so much for signing up for our newsletter! We have been talking about doing one of these for a long time and are so excited to finally be able to chat with you here in a way we can’t on IG!
I really want this newsletter to feel like a really helpful letter from us to you each month. As you probably know, we love talking about gear to help get you outdoors, and we really (really) love a sale. Especially as we get into the colder months, finding high quality and affordable gear can make adventures so much more enjoyable. So, once a month we’ll be bundling all of our seasonal favorites into one email in your inbox.
We will be compiling favorite gear, clothing, layers, and anything we’ve been really loving each month. Anything specific you’re looking for? Send us a reply and we’ll see if we have an answer!
Also, if this email ended up in your Promotions inbox, you can move it over to Primary to ensure it won’t get hidden next time!
So, without further ado…
Let’s Chat: November Favorites 🍁❄️
It’s starting to get cold in Tahoe!! We had our first true snow last week and honestly, I have been living for it. In September I was absolutely dreading the cold, but now that it’s here, I’ve been loving the slower days, getting cozy at home, and getting pumped for ski season.
REI just launched their Winter Sale with tons of great deals. It will be running from November 15-November 25! Here are some things to remember:
Members save 20% on one full-priced item. (We usually use this on something big we’ve been eyeing for a while! Think down jackets, tents, sleeping bags, boots, etc).
Members can also save an extra 20% on one REI Outlet item with coupon code WINTER24 and 20% off one Re/Supply item with code USED20.
Not a member? It’s only $30 for a lifetime membership, and REI has a deal running right now where they will give you a $30 bonus card if you buy a new membership! Join here.
Many of these items below are on sale right now! I’ve labeled them below.
CLOTHING
This month we’ve started breaking the heavy jackets, fleece, and wool back out, and all of these products will be put to a lot of use for us the next few months!
REI Magma 850 Hoodie:We wore these jackets on top of 18,000 foot peaks in Ecuador, we brought them backpacking in Yosemite, and we wear them daily around Tahoe. This jacket is made with high quality 850 fill and is one of the warmest jackets we’ve ever had. They’re super lightweight and packable (they pack into a pocket), while being extremely warm. AND it’s currently 30% off. I recommend sizing up if you like to layer underneath! ![]() |
![]() | REI Stormhenge Down ParkaOn the same topic of extremely warm jackets, this is my first season having a parka… and it has quickly become my absolute favorite for walks, errands around town and going out to dinner. This Parka is made with the same high quality down of the Magma and is also waterproof! ![]() |
![]() | Trailmade FleeceThis is a great fleece jacket for a great price. It’s thick enough to feel cozy but thin enough to layer and still be a good activewear piece! We both have these and I love the colors they offer! ![]() |
![]() | REI Trailmade PantsThese have become some of both of our favorite pairs of pants to hike and climb in. They’re definitely very lightweight (we prefer them for warmer temps), but they’re a great price compared to every other pair of pants, and they’ve beat out a lot of expensive pairs for us! ![]() |
![]() | REI 650 Down JacketIn the market for a down jacket but wanting to save some $$$? These 650 jackets by REI are an unbeatable price for quality! They don’t have a hood (unlike the 850), but I actually prefer to not have a hood for layering or skiing! These are on a special discount of 40% off this week, which is honestly pretty insane! ![]() |
![]() | BaselayersBaselayers are a key part of our winter wardrobe for hiking, skiing, camping, snowshoeing, and even just relaxing at home! I have been living in the quarter zip baselayer top by REI, they come in a poly and wool fabric! I wear the polyester one for climbing and the wool one for skiing, camping, backpacking, etc. These are a stellar price compared to similar brands that make the exact same design. ![]() |
![]() | REI Sahara Shade HoodieWe’ve talked about these a zillion times at this point but these sales are always the best time to purchase them! These are our all time favorite sun hoodies. The fabric is moisture wicking and smell resistant and we both have three and live in them! ![]() |
FOOTWEAR
![]() | BlundstonesThese are, without a doubt, the shoes we wear the most often in the fall, winter and spring. We both have two pairs now and they take us from short hikes to errands around town to date nights. I love that they can be dressed up and down, and they last FOREVER. My brown pair is going 6+ years strong right now (and I’ve never waterproofed or cleaned them… whoops). This would be a great product to use the 20% off coupon on! ![]() |
![]() | Salomon Hiking BootsWe swap out our trail runners for hiking boots this time of year for some extra traction and waterproofness! I have been wearing these Salomon Hiking Boots the past few winters and absolutely love them. They’re sturdy enough to get me through snow and ice but lightweight enough that they don’t feel like a clunky hiking boot (my biggest pet peeve). ![]() |
![]() | Snow/Rain BootsI have been on the hunt for a good pair of snow boots for YEARS. I don’t like that most of them feel clunky or aren’t actually waterproof… BUT… I started wearing these Merry People boots last year and have fallen in love with them! I wouldn’t hike in them, but I wear them around town, to shovel, on walks and to the ski resort every. single. day. They’re warm (not super insulated though), durable, and super cute (also hard to find). ![]() |
GEAR
![]() | REI Magma Sleeping BagsIf you’re in need of a new sleeping bag, REI’s Magma line is an incredible deal for the quality. We’ve backpacked with these many times in really cold temperatures and have stayed extremely cozy! They’ve seriously impressed us as a very high quality option that competes with top brands and top prices. ![]() |
![]() | Enlightened Equipment QuiltIf you’ve eyed quilts instead of sleeping bags like we had recently, Enlightened Equipment is also running a sale this month for 20% off sitewide (this doesn’t happen often!). Quilts are a great way to lighten your pack, and they’re also REALLY comfortable. Here’s a full review of ours that explains more! ![]() |
![]() | NEMO Tensor Sleeping PadOnce again, I will shout this from the rooftops!!! This is the best sleeping pad we have ever tried. It’s comfortable, it holds air, it’s easy to inflate and deflate, and it’s easy to patch! It also weighs less than 1 lb. ![]() |
![]() | Trekking PolesWe have been using these poles for over 4 years now and LOVE them. We bring them backpacking, but also use them snowshoeing and hiking now that the snow is back! Kelby even uses these for backcountry touring. The cork handle usually costs A LOT more and we’ve put these through the wringer and they have proven to be extremely durable. ![]() |
![]() | Garmin inReach mini 2If you’re going to buy one of these, the sale is the BEST time to do it. This tiny satellite communicator comes with us on every single trip. We use it for navigation, weather checks, communication with friends and family, and mostly have it for the emergency SOS button. These have saved many lives and it gives us peace of mind knowing we can save us or someone on the trail. ![]() |
I know this was a long one, I got excited about it being our first gear report! I hope this was helpful for your upcoming adventures and hopefully allows you to take advantage of some sales if you are in need of anything.
I do want to reiterate that just because there is a sale, you do NOT need anything. Sales, on the other hand, are a great time to get something you have been looking for. 😌
Questions about gear? Need help with sizing? Did you like this? Do you hate it? I would love to know your thoughts and what I can help with for next month! I am planning for December to cover more winter gear, ski apparel, etc, but let me know if you are on the hunt for something I may be forgetting!
Thank you SO much for being here, we truly cannot thank you enough! Stay warm out there!
